I found a new store that my family has become addicted to, Penzey Spices.  The containers are made from glass and have a screw on cap to keep the spices fresh.  Beyond the addiction, it has made me re-evaluate the pantry.  I sat down with Chef Tim from the Iowa Machine Shed in Des Moines and he gave me a list of what a well stocked pantry should contain.  It’s time for a pantry makeover!

 Pantry Essentials: Spices:

Kosher Salt

Black Pepper

Dried Basil

Dried Rosemary

Dried Thyme

Dried Tarragon

Paprika

Garlic Powder

Bay Leaves

Poultry Seasoning

Chili Powder

Cumin

Crushed Red Pepper

Nutmeg

Ginger

Dry Mustard

Do you have all of these?  What do you need to add to your pantry essentials?
